Flash... AHHHHHH!!! Part 1

Yes, It's that time...
Flash photography is often seen as an expensive endeavor, but if your not afraid of prying apart some 30 year old Vivitars and doing some soldering to make sure that you dont fry your camera or remote trigger, then you can do flash OTC no problem!

The Nikon D200

It has arrived!

After a wait of about two weeks, my Nikon D200 has finally arrived in the mail. It was in relatively good condition, besides for the common grip pealage beginning on the right grip. Spent the day taking some shots with it, and it really is a fine camera.

So, what does 360 dollars on craigslist get you?

Welcome to Photo on the Cheap

I'll begin by saying, that photography is not my main passion in life, but rather a means of sharing my other passions with people who are much like myself. My love for photography started at some point in late 2009, a few months after being waste deep in my motorcycle project. I had always had a "knack" for photography, being blessed with hands as steady as a photographer and a grasp of mathematics which allowed me to get down the technical side of the art without much difficulty. As my motorcycle build progressed (and was continually updated on www.dotheton.com, an excellent forum), I found myself wanting to take better and better photographs in order to be able to exhibit my work in a way so that it is as representative of the actual product as a photograph can be. By not having a "good" camera, as my sister had long since banned me from use of her point and shoot (heck, I can't blame her; my hands ARE pretty dirty), I was forced to learn to make the most out of my camera. So with my humble Olympus C2500-L, I shot my photographs, using every single bit of the grainy 400 ISO and 2.3 megapixels that I could get.

And it did well, for a while. But then the bug hit me... The Olympus went with me everywhere, and with my limited 50 shots on the 256mb card, I learned to shoot better, and better, till I reached a point where my camera was limiting me. It seemed there was never enough light to shoot quickly enough, and that my images just weren't big enough for anything more then being posted in a forum. But I was broke, 17, and would rather put my money into a shiny new part for my bike then into a camera.

Yet I searched craigslist daily. And eventually, I snagged a deal. A humble Nikon D70, with a cracked top LCD and 13,000 clicks for the amazing sum of $80 dollars. With a 130 dollar lens from KEH (an 18-55 EDII), I was set, taking better pictures then I had ever imagined I would take without breaking the bank. But now not only was I hooked on photography, but I was hooked on finding a DEAL. The D70 was recently sold, with the kit lens, to a fellow student at my highschool, With profit, of course. Along with the sale of some film bodies I had grabbed in a deal on ebay, I had enough money to fund my next purchase which I had gotten a steal on... A Nikon D200.

This Blog, my friends, is Photo on the Cheap; providing those of us who love to shoot but hate to open our wallets a means of getting our fix.
